Want to become a teacher in Further Education?

In a recent survey, more than half of respondents agree that, teaching as a profession is more rewarding as compared to other job roles.

Teaching is a rewarding and graduate profession and it will be easy to get into teaching if you have a degree and have completed a teacher training course (AET - Former PTLLS. However, there are many routes to get into teaching without going to university and it totally depends on the qualifications and experience you currently have.

Learn the teaching qualification required to work as a teacher/trainer in further education- Level 3 AET/PTLLS Teacher Training.

Find out whether it’s possible to become a Teacher without A-Levels. Take a look below at the frequently asked questions about a teaching career qualification:

“Can I get into teaching or become a teacher without a degree?

The answer is Yes. There is a route into teaching without a degree but not without any type of undergraduate degree.

You need to obtain a qualified teacher status (QTS) to teach in most state schools or equivalent qualifications to obtain QTS. You also require to complete a teacher training program by an approved provider, which means qualifying through an assessment-only route.

The assessment-only route is appropriate for graduates who have enough teaching experience but haven’t taken a teacher training course; though, it is not an option for school leavers.

“What academic qualifications do I need to be a teacher?

In order to become a teacher, the entry requirements are:

  • GCSEs Grade C/4 or above in exams for English and maths
  • Gain the professional skills and pass the test in numeracy and literacy
  • An undergraduate degree

“Do I need A-levels to be a teacher?

To pursue a career in teaching, there is no requirement for A-levels. If you decide to go to university and have GCSEs at grade C or above, you can simply take the Access to HE Diploma route, which will allow you to go to university. This diploma includes:
