Door supervisors are eligible to work as a Security guard or Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry and will administer the entry policy in venues like pubs, bars, and nightclubs to look after the safety of the people inside. How to become a Door Supervisor?

To get through into this job, Door Supervisors must hold an SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence to operate legally. To obtain an SIAlicence, you must meet the following requirements:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • take an approved training course
  • have a national qualification in their sector
  • pass an identity and criminal records check

 

Door Supervisor Training

In order to obtain an SIA licence, you will need to show that you have received the required training of a licenced operative to the right level. This applies to the front-line staff only.

To get one of the qualifications required for Door Supervisor licensing, you will need to complete 4 training modules and pass the exams. Door supervisior training must be delivered over a minimum of 6 days.

 

Required Qualifications for Door Supervisors 

An SIA licence is issued for three years and door supervisors need the Level 2 Award in door supervision (or an exemption) within the Private Security Industry before a licence will be issued.

The Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security qualification is mandatory for anyone who wants to work as a door supervisor in the UK. It is a nationally recognised qualification by the SIA and regulated by Ofqual and Department for Education and Skills.

 

The qualification comprises 4 compulsory units:

  • Unit 1 - Working within the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2 - Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 3 - Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 4 - Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry

 

Assessment of practical skills:

  • Unit 1 - 40-question multiple-choice exam
  • Unit 2 - 45-question multiple-choice exam
  • Unit 3 - 20-question multiple-choice exam
  • Unit 4 - On-going practical and knowledge assessment throughout the training which is marked by the course tutor.

 

Make sure your SIA- endorsed qualifications are valid for SIA licensing irrespective of which UK qualifications regulatory authority approved them. It is also recommended to undertaking additional, location-specific training if you plan to work in a region not covered by your training.

 

If you want to work in the security industry as a Door Supervisor, Security Guard or CCTV Operator, you will need to obtain an SIA Licence.

To attain an SIA Licence, you will need to complete an SIA Security Course. Once you successfully complete the course, you are eligible to work as a Security guard or Door Supervisor and be able to apply for an SIALicence.
