The Driving Theory Test is an important part of obtaining a driving’s licence, and many individuals face problems in passing this test. To successfully pass the theory test, you must have to correctly answer 86% of the questions. It’s necessary you practice for the test, and there are lots of available resources that can help you to improve your knowledge and confidence to pass the exam.

Here are our top 10 tips and tricks to help you pass your driving theory test.

1. Review the Highway Code

Reviewing the Highway Code is a great way to gain more knowledge and understanding about the exam pattern. There are also many revision courses available online to help you learn and practise for your theory test. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) website also provides theory test practice and revision questions and answers.

2. Book Your Theory Test

You will need to book your theory test at one of the approved 160 test centres across the country. To find your nearest centre and book your test: Visit the official government site

While booking the test, make sure you have your Provisional licence to fill your details and Credit or Debit card in Hand to pay £23 fees for the booking.

3. Hit the Books and Study Ahead of Time

To have a higher chance of passing the test, you need to study more and read the Highway Code thoroughly. The DVSA (Driving Standards Agency) also offers a theory test handbook which is packed full of useful tips and examples of multiple-choice questions. In the theory test, there will be 50 multiple choice questions and you will need to get at least 43 correct answers to pass.

Make sure to study ahead of time, instead of studying at the last moment. It’s important to understand everything because what you learn will not only help you to pass the test but also prepare you to become a safe driver for life.

4. Take a Course and Practice Hazard Perception and Mock Tests

Study materials and courses are two great ways to prepare for your upcoming theory test. They help to understand the subjects that can sometimes be boringly explained in the Highway Code.

We, at Bright Learning Centre, provide a Driving Theory Test Training in Leicestera summarized Highway Code, and hazard perception tests and video clips.

You can also follow to the government website and try their mock tests - though they only offer the multiple-choice part.

5. Put in the hours

You need to put the hours in when it comes to revising. Your theory exam contains questions that can be picked up randomly from around 1000 possible questions. So, you need to be confident in answering any of the questions asked in the theory test.

And remember to practise your hazard perception. You need to get a minimum of 44 out of 75 on the hazard perception test to pass.

In the real test, you will have 57 minutes to answer the 50 questions, so practise answering the question under pressure by asking friends and family to quiz you.

On the Test Day:

6. Reach on time

You need to reach the test centre 30 minutes before the start of your test, so leave well on time to get there and minimise stress on the day.

7. Carry your provisional licence photocard

On the day of your theory test, don’t forget to take your photocard driving licence. In case you forget it, you are not allowed to sit in your test.

8. Take the practice time

Before your test; you will get 15 minutes to get familiar with the touch screen and the layout of the questions. Take your time and check if it’s all working fine. If it doesn’t, resolve it before your test starts.

9. Don’t spend too much time on tricky questions

If you stuck on a tricky question, don’t worry. Press the flag button and it’ll highlight the question as unanswered, so you can easily go back to it before the end of the test. Because in the test you’ll have only 57 minutes to answer 50 multiple-choice questions.

10. Take a break

A 3-minute break will be provided between the first and second part of your test. So, take a deep breath and start focusing on the next part of the test - hazard perception.
