Does first aid training need to be approved by the HSE?

HSE Approved First Aid Training

From October 2013, the companies that previously offered ‘HSE Approved’ First Aid Training cannot claim to be approved by the health & safety body.

This brings more flexibility to choose your training provider. However, employers must make sure they undertake approved first aid providers that they select.

First Aid Training Guidelines

All first aid training courses should meet the criteria set by the HSE. Here are some of the set criteria:

  • ·        Qualifications for the trainers and assessors
  • ·        Quality assurance systems
  • ·        Standards and teaching of first aid practice
  • ·        Syllabus content
  • ·        Certification

  • The principles of assessment for first aid qualifications must satisfy the criteria and show clarity in this area. Employers will show commitment to the Health & Safety Law, that they have picked a competent training provider. The HSE is not able to assess whether the training provider is capable and have the quality assurance that they have in place.

First Aid Training Courses

If employers decide that through a first aid risk assessment, they need get employees qualified in First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), they need to find training providers that meet the appropriate qualifications.

Our First aid at work course in Leicester includes Emergency first aid at work course and trains employees to be able to apply first aid to various injuries and illnesses. EFAW trains first-aider employees to give emergency first aid to someone at work who becomes injured or ill.

A first aid risk assessment will determine which kind of training employees need. FAW training takes around 3 days and EFAW training takes minimum of 1 day.

At Bright Learning Centre, we offer first aid courses in Leicester for people for work, parents and anyone who wants to learn the simple skills needed to help in a first aid emergency.

Our training equips employees & management alike with the information needed to comply with current legislation surrounding first aid.
